I wasn’t fully sold at first, but swapping to 3 mm zirconium balls changed everything. Now it holds its own against the Vestratto Tornado in a water bubbler, and I often reach for it first. The Reload 3 is a lifesaver for screen changes. Thoughtful design from Mad Heaters, once dialled in it’s a ripper.
Once you dial everything in this thing is a beast. I've been using a big torch to heat it up but I will eventually buy yllvape induction heater 3.0.
I've had the Tempest V1 as my only TED for nearly a year. I was very well pleased with it's performance and only bought the V2 out of interest's sake and to have a backup if anything broke.
I was loyal to the V1 because it did the job well and enjoys an elegant design, it's still a handsome unit. The V2 however is superior in nearly every way. The only negative I have with the V2 is the lack of a rotating mouthpiece, which makes spinning the V1 during heating so smooth and easy. Other than that the V2 wins everywhere else. The ergonomics are better, heating is faster, cleaning is easier and it hits hard, plenty hard.
Both versions get warm to hold by the time full extraction is made, the V2 perhaps ever so slightly cooler to touch.
It may well be possible to achieve full extraction in one heat cycle with the V2, however in the real world this is more dependent upon the users lung capacity, how long the draw is held before exhale; and the ambient air temperature cooling the unit.
I find that I need to cycle through 2 or 3 heat cycles to achieve full extraction with the V2, however the V1 takes me 3 or 4 heat cycles to achieve the same result. Both work out great, the V2 is just a bit quicker.
These reheating cycles are where the Tempest shines over the competition, the temperature gauge allows for accurate reheating within any ambient temperature, eliminating all the guesswork.
The V1 looks better and has the spinning mouthpiece, but the V2 is better everywhere else.
Staff are very helpful, responsive to emails, & quick to pack & send the order. Add to that, the Tempest 2 is a very nice device if you’re into manual TEDs. Just be careful when first removing the cap, as my retaining screen has come out in shipping, but luckily I had the device tip-down so no loss of balls. Thank you for another great purchase🙏
After trialling a few dhv’s I was ready to go back to combustion. Yes, they all work but they are also just so underwhelming. New models are always hyped on the forums but they never live up to the hype imo.
Then I saw this thing. It also gets hyped but after watching many reviews it looked like this might actually live up to it. And it does.
I even waited a few weeks to review it so the novelty wasn’t clouding my judgement 😊
I got the whole bundle including the Reload 3, case and YLL 3.0 and I’m absolutely stoked with it.
The Tempest 2 is such a great design and it’s super adjustable so you can dial it in to perform exactly how you like. I like using it natively as much as I do with glassware. Every time I pick it up I can’t help but marvel at how well it’s designed. They’ve literally thought of everything.
If you want to keep costs down then just get the Tempest 2, Reload 3 & a torch but if you can afford it get then get the bundle as these things all compliment and synergise with each other really well.
100% satisfied with this purchase and with Herbware’s customer service. Thanks!
